The television industry mourns the loss of Geoffrey Neigher, a talented writer and producer whose remarkable career spanned across beloved shows. Neigher’s contributions to iconic series like The Bob Newhart Show, Rhoda, Murder One, and Picket Fences earned him recognition and praise. Geoffrey Neigher’s impressive journey came to an end on August 10, at his residence in Hancock Park, Los Angeles. He succumbed to complications arising from cancer, as shared by his wife, Karen, to The Hollywood Reporter.

During the early seasons (1974-77) of CBS’ Rhoda, Neigher played a significant role as a writer and executive script consultant, contributing approximately two dozen episodes. His creative prowess extended to the Valerie Harper sitcom, and he also received credit for his work on The Bob Newhart Show. Neigher’s excellence was further recognized with an Emmy award for outstanding drama series in 1994, which he shared with other talents for CBS’ Picket Fences during its second and third seasons (1993-95).

Neigher’s accomplishments continued to accumulate, as he garnered an Emmy nomination for his writing on an episode of Northern Exposure in the preceding year. His involvement extended to other noteworthy shows such as Murder One (1995-97), where he showcased his versatile skills as both a writer and a producer.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Geoffrey Mark Neigher pursued his education at Yale University and Yale Law School. Upon relocating to Los Angeles in 1973, he embarked on an illustrious career, partnering with Coleman “Chick” Mitchell to work on projects like Rhoda, The Bob Newhart Show, and Paul Sand in Friends and Lovers under the banner of MTM Enterprises.

Neigher’s profound impact extended to series like Gimme a Break! (1981-83), where he wrote and produced, and his involvement with Law & Order: Criminal Intent, John Doe, and more.

He is survived by his wife Karen, children Julie and Eric, daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandchildren Atticus and Wilhelmina, and brothers Rick and Steve.
