Jaina Lee Ortiz was born on November 20, 1986 in California, USA. She started her career by performing in some student films. In 2010, she had her TV debut as herself in the reality series Scream Queens. She next appeared in 6 episodes of the TV series The Shop. During this period, Ortiz also performed in some short films.

Soon, she landed the role of Detective Annalise Villa in the police drama Rosewood. This marked her first starring role on the small screen.
