The city officials revealed Friday that a woman who was discovered deceased in Gatlinburg nearly 50 years ago has been identified.
A woman previously only known by her case number, #UP1589, in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, was eventually given a name when the remains from a cold case from December 1974 were identified through forensic genealogy testing.
Charlotte Roberta Henry is her name. She was recognized after Othram, Inc. received a DNA sample from her bones.
The Gatlinburg Police Department hired Othram within the past year to continue looking into the identification of Henryβs remains. According to a press statement from the City of Gatlinburg, Othram Laboratory representatives contacted Detective Cindy Meyers of the Gatlinburg Police in February 2023 regarding a potential DNA match for a relative in Arkansas.
The spokesperson claims that there is no known reason of death for Henry.
